Ten Summer Internships

Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ is proud to offer 10 summer internship opportunities for 2025 to support your professional growth in health care administration. Below are the various departments and preceptors that could host one of the 10 administrative interns. A graduate student’s academic background and skillsets will be matched with varying types of projects and possible host departments. Community Clinics

Community Clinics comprise 11 community health centers across the Wasatch Front and support over 1 million outpatient encounters annually. These facilities provide urgent care, primary care, specialty care, and emergency care. They also have state-of-the-art operating rooms, imaging, cancer treatment, endoscopy, vision services, pharmacies, and physical therapy. In 2024, U of U Health ranked number three nationally in Vizient’s Ambulatory Care Quality and Accountability awards.

Michael Bronson

Executive Director for Ambulatory Services

As Executive Director for ambulatory Services, Mr. Bronson partners with physician, nursing, and other leaders to provide operational leadership for ambulatory care. His responsibilities comprise planning, directing, evaluating, and improving the performance of outpatient care services to achieve University of Utah’s health care, education, and research missions.

Mr. Bronson has overseen service delivery in a multitude of health care settings including both outpatient and inpatient services. He has spent much of his career helping academic medical centers grow their service delivery footprints, having managed expansion efforts at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and at U of U Health. Collaborating with dozens of talented leaders he led the planning, programming, opening, and operations of U of U Health’s facilities in South Jordan, Farmington, and Sugar House. He teaches Health Care Operations Management in the MHA Program at the David Eccles School of Business.

Community Engagement

Community Engagement heightens system-wide coordination of activities aligned with our mission, social determinants of health, health equity, and our community health needs assessment. We aim to make meaningful and measurable contributions to the communities we serve with our limited resources.

Director, Community Engagement

RyLee Curtis is a Utah native. She graduated with a dual degree in Communications and Political Science from the University of Utah, where she also received her master’s degree in Public Policy. She worked on Medicaid policy in Utah for many years before joining Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ as the Director of Community Engagement. In this role, she leads University Hospital’s Healthcare Anchor Institution work and engages with community-based organizations to address social determinants of health. Curtis believes in the power of building partnerships on the University of Utah campus, in Salt Lake Valley and across the state of Utah.

Decision Support

Decision Support provides operational leaders, clinicians, and staff with data analytics, presented to enhance U of U Health Care data knowledge. Decision support also provides assistance with requests related to VDO, hospital finance, service line reporting, clinical dashboards, statistical analytics, predictive analytics, etc.

Senior Decision Support Director

Candice is a reliable and results-oriented procurement and business management professional with over 20 years of experience. She is a proven leader with success in managing 8–10 procurement professionals who promote a productive climate. She confidently motivates and coaches employees to meet high performance standards. She is focused on supporting rapid revenue growth and expansion by effectively overseeing negotiations and vendor relationships.

Facilities Management

Facilities Management is responsible for the maintenance, construction, and design of Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ facilities. They support exceptional patient care by providing spaces that are reliably safe, functional, and beautiful.

Dustin Banks

Associate Executive Director – Facilities Management

Dustin Banks serves as the Associate Executive Director of Facilities Management at Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ, where he directs strategic planning and comprehensive facility management for both hospital and clinic infrastructures. In his role, Dustin provides oversight across multiple domains, including facility design, construction, operations, as well as maintenance resource allocation for in-patient and out-patient facilities. His work ensures sustainable practices, operational efficiency, and safety in alignment with the institution’s mission to deliver top-tier healthcare.

Human Resources

University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics Human Resources is a collaborative, strategic partner that supports the delivery of compassionate care by growing and retaining an engaged workforce. They provide operational and strategic resources for leaders to make informed decisions, to innovate, and to take action.

Rob Prisbrey

Senior Director of Compensation & Benefits

Rob Prisbrey is a seasoned HR and Total Rewards leader with a background in compensation system design, incentive plan administration, and HR transformation across various industries, including healthcare, academia, and manufacturing. His career has included leading compensation programs at The Ohio State University, supporting over 26,000 staff, including the Wexner Medical Center, and guiding HR transformation efforts at Hexion by implementing global HR systems for five thousand employees across 27 countries. Rob’s experience in both corporate and academic healthcare settings provides him with unique insights into aligning rewards strategies with organizational goals.

Originally from Washington state, Rob is pleased to be back in the West, bringing his expertise and enthusiasm to support the next generation of HR professionals. Outside of work, he enjoys the outdoors, from off-roading and camping to snowboarding, and is looking forward to engaging with graduate students as they embark on their careers.

Huntsman Cancer Hospital

Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah is a nationally-recognized research center and treatment hospital in Salt Lake City. Huntsman Cancer Institute serves patients with all types of cancer who come from throughout the Mountain West, including Utah and parts of Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Wyoming. We provide patient and family housing relocation.

Donald F. Milligan, MBA

Hospital Executive Director at Huntsman Cancer Institute

Donald F. Milligan serves as executive director of the cancer hospital at Huntsman Cancer Institute, the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in the five-state Mountain West. This state-of-the-art, freestanding specialty hospital houses cancer care services for the Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ system.

Milligan is the senior administrator over clinical cancer programs. He provides oversight of operational aspects of the cancer hospital, including leadership of the programming and design planning for a major expansion, the Kathryn F. Kirk Center for Comprehensive Cancer Care and Women’s Cancers.

Huntsman Mental Health Institute

Huntsman Mental Health Institute (previously the University Neuropsychiatric Institute) works to eliminate mental health stigma, revolutionize patient outcomes, inspire hope, and bring healing to people and populations in need. Our researchers and competitive general psychiatry and triple-board residency programs bring a high standard of mental health treatment to Utah. Our clinical services include a full continuum of care including hospital treatment, tele-psychiatry, substance use and addiction recovery, child and teen programs, adult and geriatric programs, suicide prevention and crisis services, and therapy and medication management services.

Dave Eldredge MSW, LCSW

Senior Director, Clinical Operations

Eldredge is a 6th generation resident of Salt Lake City. He received a Bachelor of Sciences in Sociology, Psychology, and Criminology Certification from the U of U and a Master of Social Work from Brigham Young University. Eldredge has contributed to local health care the past 28+ years in both public and commercial realms–including 23 years of healthcare administration. As a leader, Eldredge fulfills his responsibility to those we serve and include a vast base of stakeholders. He aspires to maintain humility, integrity, wisdom, competency, a strong moral compass, compassion, continuous quality improvement, and mutual respect as a foundation.

In his free time, Eldredge enjoys spending time with family, friends, cooking, the outdoors, mountain biking, road cycling, and motocross.

Information Communication Technology

Information Communication Technology plans and implements administrative activities, and manages all hospital-related IT projects. Their responsibilities include interpreting policies and providing advice on IT integration and services.

Donna M. Roach, CHCIO, FCHIME, FHIMSS (She/Her)

Chief Information Officer

Donna Roach is a senior information technology executive with extensive experience in managing IT organizations of varying size and complexity in the health care field, while balancing the needs of the hospital, physicians, and clinicians in order to create an environment for health care quality and efficiency. Roach is a skilled contract negotiator who utilizes customer/vendor alliances to accomplish goals. She also exhibits a track record of automating health care processes requires the ability to change the way organizations work.

Her strategic vision is to understand the internal strengths and weaknesses as well as the external opportunities and threats a health care organization faces when formulating an IT strategic plan.

Neilson Rehabilitation Hospital

The Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital blends hospitality with state-of-the-art care and innovation. As the preeminent destination for patients recovering from life-altering injuries and conditions, the hospital focuses on preserving, enhancing, and restoring function through the dedicated work of our therapy, nursing, and medical teams.

Bart B. Adams

Executive Director of Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ's Orthopaedic Center and the Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital

Bart is the executive director of Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ's Orthopaedic Center and the Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital. He directs all the operational activities at these facilities and the orthopedic and rehabilitation service lines at Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ. In this capacity, he works collaboratively with the executive team of the hospitals and clinics and the departments of Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in achieving and aligning initiatives that advance care at Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ.

Bart has held several hospital management positions, compiling more than 35 years of management experience in health care that stemmed from clinical positions in laboratory medicine.

Bart received his bachelor's of science from Brigham Young University and his MBA from Indiana University.

Office of Network Development and Telemedicine (ONDT)

The Office of Network Development and Tele-Medicine (ONDT) strives to assist all communities, particularly rural and underserved areas, through the Affiliate Network, the Regional Network, continuing provider education, and telemedicine partnerships. It serves to provide network partners access to the clinical expertise, research, and resources from our top ranked academic medical center — in order to then serve patients within their own communities.

Nate Gladwell

Executive Director of the Office of Network Development and Telehealth

Nate Gladwell, Senior Director of Virtual Care, and Executive Director of the Office of Network Development and Telemedicine has a strong and committed background in health care, with a focus on digital health, care delivery network design, and population health. Nate has a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Minnesota and is a Registered Nurse – his experience clinically and in leadership roles provide a unique vantage point of healthcare strategy and operations. 

He has a proven track record in strategy development and implementation, as well as operational performance and quality in a hospital setting. Nate has successfully combined best-practice leadership design, operational management acumen, and clinical relations through his career. For more than a decade, Nate has been leading the impact provided by U of U Health specialists through digital health and clinical outreach to rural and urban communities throughout the 6 state Mountain West region of the US.

Revenue Cycle Support Services

Revenue Cycle Support Services is the backbone of Utah’s financial system. Its responsibilities range from insurance prior authorizations to processing billions of dollars in claims and payments. Revenue cycle encompasses patient access, revenue integrity, accounts receivables, quality assurance and culture/system integrity.

System Director

I am honored and proud of my 35-year-long work at University of Utah Heath. Throughout my tenure, I have served in various roles within the revenue cycle, leading to my current position of System Director of Revenue Cycle Support Services. I am passionate about serving our patients and community, building strong relationships, and fostering a culture of trust, hard work, and fun within my department. I strongly believe that strategic vision and surrounding myself with talented individuals is key to our collective success.

On a personal level, I am a native of Utah and appreciate everything our beautiful state has to offer. My family, including my amazing grandchildren, is everything to me. I love music, traveling, and exploring the great outdoors.

Supply Chain

Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ Supply Chain is dedicated to providing high quality health care at an affordable cost. To achieve this goal, the supply chain department relies on strong supplier partnerships along with supplier adherence to our policies and procedures.

Administrative Director of Supply Chain Management

Brian Pollick has over 38 years of experience within the health care supply chain industry. He joined Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ in 2014 as the Administrative Director of Supply Chain Management. Brian is laser-focused on developing and implementing operational enhancements around automated inventory management, executing supply savings strategies through his Value Analysis and Contracting teams, and centered on optimizing a clinically integrated SC program. Before joining the University, he served as the Assistant Vice President of Supply Chain for IASIS Healthcare in Franklin, Tennessee. Brian started his career in 1985 working for HCA St. Mark’s Hospital in several Supply Chain capacities. He has been fortunate to work his entire career based out of Salt Lake City, Utah.  

System Planning

The System Planning Department is a collaboration between the Space Planning, Strategic Integration, and Operational Project Management teams.

System planning coordinates people, processes, and proactive planning across the organization to support all aspects of U of U Health operations. Reporting to the chief operating officer, system planning provides a focal point for planning ideas that percolate throughout the organization. We then evaluate ongoing and future efforts to sustain inpatient, ambulatory, surgical, ​​​​support services, and beyond.​

Ischa Jensen

Associate Executive Director of System Planning At Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, Ischa moved to Utah in 2011 to begin her work with Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ. Her experience includes revenue cycle, project management, health system operations, space planning, and strategic integration. As the inaugural leader of the Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ System Planning Office, Ischa is focused on developing and supporting master planning efforts to align the complicated and individualistic nature of health care operational practice. Her specific oversight includes the Operational Project Management Office, Space Planning, U of U Health Operational Plan, Capacity and Financial Action Planning, new West Valley Health site, and hospital-based School of Medicine relocation efforts.

System Quality

System Quality falls under the umbrella of patient safety, accreditation, infection prevention, and value engineering. The system quality team is a multi-functional team that helps the Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ system achieve high rankings in Vizient Quality and Accountability Rankings.

Chief Quality Officer at Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ

Sandi Gulbransen currently leads system-wide efforts focused on delivering high value clinical care to our patients and community. She and her team provide strategy and support to align value work with system priories, national quality programs, and benchmarks for hospitals, clinics, and providers. In her previous roles, Sandi led the System Quality team and co-founded the Value Engineering program at Â鶹ѧÉú¾«Æ·°æ. Since she joined U o f U Health, she and her teams of quality improvement, patient safety, infection prevention, accreditation, and engineering professionals have improved the quality, safety and efficiency across the continuum of care. The value initiatives conducted to date have led to significant improvements in clinical quality and outcomes as well as resulting in multi-year bottom line savings to the organization.
