The Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) named Peter Chira, MD, MS, the recipient of the “Outstanding Service Award” for the 2025 Community Awards.
This award recognizes an individual whose generous service and collaboration have made a lasting impact on the CARRA community, and Dr. Chira exemplifies these qualities in every way. From his early role on the Finance Committee to his leadership in the Transition Workgroup, and the Cross-Cutting Research Committee. Dr. Chira has consistently advanced CARRA’s mission.
His commitment to mentoring, his work with the Juvenile Arthritis community, and his leadership in planning the Annual Scientific Meeting demonstrate his dedication to improving outcomes for children with rheumatic diseases.
“Our Community Awards shine a light on individuals who embody collaboration, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to improving outcomes for children with rheumatic diseases,” said Stacy Ardoin, MD, President of CARRA. “We are thrilled to celebrate their achievements, and we want to thank them for their contributions to pediatric rheumatology research and to our community.”

Chira is a Clinical Professor in the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at the University of Utah and Primary Children’s Hospital.
The awards, which were presented at CARRA’s Annual Scientific Meeting in Denver this month, honor people who have made outstanding achievements in advancing pediatric rheumatology research and have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of children living with rheumatic and related autoimmune diseases. These award winners have shown great dedication to CARRA’s mission to conduct collaborative research to prevent, treat, and cure pediatric rheumatic diseases.
