The Ophthalmologist magazine, a London-based publication, has named five John A. Moran Eye Center faculty members among the most influential figures in ophthalmology internationally, placing them on its .
Judges reviewed thousands of nominations submitted by the magazine鈥檚 readers to compile this year鈥檚 highly anticipated annual list, released March 31. Each submission celebrates an individual who has made a significant impact on the field, whether through ongoing commitments to innovation or a philanthropic initiative. The 100 individuals on the list were split nearly evenly between U.S. and international institutions, non-profits, and companies.
"It鈥檚 truly an honor to be acknowledged on this prestigious list," said Moran CEO Randall J Olson, MD, one of the five faculty members named to the list. "Although we are not one of the largest programs in the country, we are third in terms of the number of faculty represented鈥攁nd I could not be more proud."
Moran Eye Center faculty honored on the Power List 2020:
- Alan S. Crandall, MD, is a renowned cataract surgeon and humanitarian who has traveled the globe conducting outreach missions to expand access to eye care.
- , is executive director of Moran鈥檚 and a leading researcher in the fight against age-related macular degeneration, a major cause of blindness for adults age 55 and older.
- Nick Mamalis, MD, is a talented physician-researcher who has directed research into virtually every artificial intraocular lens (IOL) on the market at Moran鈥檚 Intermountain Ocular Research Center, where he serves as co-director. He is the current president of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
- Randall J Olson, MD, is a clinician-researcher specializing in cataract surgery and IOLs. He is CEO of the Moran Eye Center, where he leads more than 500 employees and 15 research labs.
- , co-directs the world-renowned Intermountain Ocular Research Center vetting new intraocular lens technology and conducting groundbreaking research on related complications.
