National Clinician Scholars Program
Moran Eye Center resident Brian C. Stagg, MD, has been accepted into the prestigious National Clinician Scholars Program (NCSP). This two-year fellowship offers interdisciplinary training for clinicians to become change agents who will drive policy-relevant research and partnerships to improve health and health care in the United States.
Up to 20 Clinician Scholars are selected each year. To be eligible for the program, applicants must show a commitment to improving health or the health care system and must be highly regarded by those responsible for their clinical training.
Stagg's fellowship will begin on July 1, 2016 at the University of Michigan's training site. The fellowship includes strong mentorship, robust training in research methods, policy, leadership, and communication skills, and protected time to conduct research. Scholars also have the opportunity to pursue a master's degree at their training site.
Brian Stagg
Stagg is currently a third-year resident at the Moran Eye Center. He was previously appointed the "resident representative" for ophthalmology's Resident Review Committee (RRC) for the Association of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), a position which runs from July 2014 through June 2016. The RRC reviews and awards accreditation for all specialties for the ACGME and Stagg represents all ophthalmology residents in the United States. Stagg also received the 2013 Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation Inc. (ARCS) award.
