Esophageal Cancer Basics
Esophageal cancer develops when malignant​ (cancerous)​ cells form in the lining of the esophagus — the muscular tube that carries food from the throat to the stomach.
These are warning signs of esophageal cancer:​​​​​
- Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia)
- Unintentional weight loss
- Pain or discomfort in the chest or back
- Indigestion or heartburn
- Chronic cough or hoarseness
- Vomiting or regurgitation
- ​​Bloody or dark stools​​​
